Our laser & your skin

Our 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser targets the pigment in your hair to reduce growth over a series of treatments. It can treat a range of skin tones, including darker skin. We assess your suitability and choose your settings individually.

Skin tone vs. hair colour

Every client responds differently. In general, the lighter your hair or the darker your skin, the more sessions you may need. Dark, coarse hair usually responds best. Blonde, red, grey, white, and very fine hair may respond poorly or may not be suitable. Laser isn’t the right fit for everyone, so we’ll talk through what to expect at your consultation.

Consultation & test patch

A consultation and test patch are required before your first treatment. We look at your skin, hair, health history, and goals to build a plan that’s right for you.

What to tell us before treatment

Please let us know about:

Any medications you take
Skin conditions
Recent tanning or sunburn
Pregnancy
Any changes to your health since your last visit

Never stop a prescribed medication for your appointment. Just keep us informed so we can plan your treatment.

Before each appointment

Shave the treatment area following the prep instructions we give you.
Arrive with the area clean and free of products.
Between sessions, shaving is fine. Skip waxing, sugaring, threading, and plucking.

Why no waxing or plucking?

These methods pull the hair out from the root, which is the part the laser needs to target.

Sun & self tanner

Avoid tanning and self tanner on the treatment area, and protect exposed skin with a broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher.

Recent sun, a new tan, or a sunburn? If you’ve had any of these in the 2 to 4 weeks before your appointment, please contact us first. Your treatment may need to be postponed.

Sessions & realistic results

Laser offers long term hair reduction. It isn’t a guarantee that every hair will be gone permanently. A course of 6 to 8 sessions is a common starting point, and some clients need more depending on the area, their hair, hormones, and how they respond.

How far apart are sessions?

As a general guideline, we start with about 4 weeks between face treatments and about 8 weeks between body treatments. Every client is different, and as regrowth slows, your esthetician may space your sessions further apart.

Following your recommended schedule helps us treat hair at the right point in its growth cycle, which gives each session its best chance to work.

Maintenance & hormones

After your course, maintenance sessions are booked as needed. Hormonal changes, such as PCOS, pregnancy, or menopause, may mean extra sessions or more frequent maintenance. Laser reduces existing hair growth, but it doesn’t treat the underlying hormonal condition.

Comfort & aftercare

We use cooling to help keep you comfortable. Treatment can feel like brief heat or a quick snapping sensation. Temporary redness and swelling around the follicles can happen afterward.

Protect treated skin from the sun and follow the personalised aftercare instructions we give you.

Need a break? Let us know right away if you need to pause your package, like during a pregnancy. We’ll pause it and pick back up whenever you’re ready. If we don’t hear from you before your package expires, it can’t be paused or extended and any remaining sessions are lost.

Extra sessions after your package are 20% off if you bought a 6 session package, or 25% off if you bought an 8 session package.

Promotions or sale discounts on your original package don’t carry over to extra sessions.
